Another day, another dose of updates and advisories. And this time it’s Oracle, the kind people who bring us Java (no cup included). On April 16th, Oracle announced a critical patch update to Java that addresses 42 fixes to the security of the program.
The update impacts Java versions 7, 6, 5, and JavaFX version 2.2.7 and earlier. Users are encouraged to test this update on a non-production system to ensure there is no major impact with critical business programs and functions, then apply the update to all production systems if no issues are experienced.
Of the 42 fixes addressed by the update, 2 apply to Java installed on server operating systems and will need to be applied as well.
In addition to the update for Java, Oracle also released updates for a myriad of other products, including Oracle Database, MySQL, Peoplesoft, E-Business Suite, Webcenter, and others. These updates cover a total of 128 security fixes and Oracle recommends testing and implementation of these updates as required by users.
