Earlier today Adobe released a critical update to its Flash Player program correcting an issue with versions 12 and 11 of the player. Flash Player is the software installed on a computer that allows individuals to view videos on YouTube and some websites, as well as some other web content.
Adobe’s security advisory details that the vulnerability could allow an attacker to take complete control over an impacted computer system, potentially giving the malicious intruder complete access to everything on the system. Adobe also warned that they are aware of exploit code in the wild that could be used to target this vulnerability.
All users that have Flash Player installed are strongly encouraged to update to the newest release of Flash. Users can go online to Adobe’s website and click the Adobe Flash Player link on the right hand side of the page to download the latest version, or click right here.
Users with Internet Explorer 10 and 11 installed should automatically be updated to the latest release, however it is recommended these users check the Adobe Flash Checker page to verify the latest is installed (there’s a box that says version; you want it to be either 12.0.0.44 or 11.2.202.336). If you are still running I.E. 6, 7, 8, or 9, you will need to manually update.
Also, users that surf the web with Firefox will need to manually update their Flash Player, as well as users of Opera (and most other browsers). Individuals who surf the web with Google Chrome will simply need to update Chrome, which will bring along the latest Flash Player update.
